The Silver Songbirds Bring Holiday Cheer

The Silver Songbirds add something truly special to the Christmas season. Made up of memory support residents alongside other community members, the choir fills the room with the joyful sounds of familiar holiday carols and festive favorites, spreading warmth and connection with every performance.

The resident-led choir performs for fellow residents, staff, and the wider community, creating meaningful moments through the power of music. The choir is part of The Ohio Masonic Communities Memory Support Programming, Connecting Realities, which aims to enhance engagement, well-being, and connection through creative expression.

Music therapy offers proven benefits, especially for those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. In a comfortable, supportive environment, participants experience improved mood, increased movement, stronger communication, reduced agitation, and even moments of memory recall.

Liz Stamm, Director of Connecting Realities, shared, “The Silver Songbirds are not just a choir. It’s a place to express, to explore, and to be accepted regardless of cognitive capabilities. Together in song and community, all are welcome.”
