Excitement is in the Air: Springfield Masonic Community Breaks Ground

On a chilly December afternoon, community members, staff, and local, state, and national dignitaries gathered to celebrate a major milestone at Springfield Masonic Community (SMC): the groundbreaking for a new assisted living, healthcare center, and memory support neighborhood. The 64-million-dollar expansion will permanently change the landscape of Springfield Masonic Community.

Residents and leaders shared reflections on what the project means for the community. Tom Fisher, an SMC resident and member of The Ohio Masonic Communities Foundation Board, spoke movingly about the impact of the expansion. “My wife and I never questioned our decision to move to SMC in 2020,” he shared. “This project makes so much sense for the residents of Springfield and the surrounding communities.”

While the project brings a mix of nostalgia and anticipation, excitement clearly leads the way. Planning has been underway for some time, with early improvements already completed, including Community Center updates, a new parking garage, and an additional elevator in the Scottish Rite apartments.

Scott Buchanan, CEO of The Ohio Masonic Communities, shared, “We are very excited to be starting the next phase of our Strategic Capital Plan with the groundbreaking for our new healthcare center that will host a state-of-the-art skilled nursing center, modern assisted living area, and the addition of an assisted living memory support neighborhood. This repositioning will make us more efficient and effective at delivering the care and outcomes we are known for.”

Annette Turner, SMC President, emphasized, “We’re a five-star community. That means we give five-star quality care, we have five stars in our health inspections, and we also have a five-star staffing rating, which is amazing in this day and age for healthcare centers. I’m very proud of this team for giving excellent care and doing an awesome job. To build on that, we will have a five-star community in the look that matches the care we already provide.”
