A Message from the Grand Master

My Brothers,

As I reflect upon this year, I am filled with gratitude and pride for the Freemasons of Ohio. Throughout our great jurisdiction, I have seen countless examples of dedication, service, leadership, and brotherly love. From our newest Entered Apprentices to our most seasoned Past Masters, Ohio Masons have shown what it truly means to be Committed to the Craft.

Freemasonry has never been about a single officer, a single Lodge, or a single year. It is built upon generations of men who have willingly given their time and talents to leave our Fraternity stronger than they found it. This year has been no exception. Everywhere I have traveled across Ohio, I have seen Brothers working diligently to improve their Lodges, mentor new members, support their communities, and ensure that our traditions remain vibrant for future generations.

One of the accomplishments that has particularly impressed me has been the growth and success of the Chamber of Reflection experiences throughout our state. The Chamber of Reflection provides a candidate with something that is increasingly rare in today's world, a moment of quiet contemplation. Before taking his first steps into Freemasonry, he is given the opportunity to pause, reflect, and consider the journey that lies ahead.

The feedback from candidates has been overwhelmingly positive. Many have described the experience as one of the most memorable and meaningful parts of their initiation. These chambers have encouraged thoughtful introspection and have helped reinforce the seriousness and significance of the obligations they are about to undertake.

This success did not happen by accident. It happened because dedicated Brothers across Ohio devoted countless hours to planning, constructing, presenting, and refining these experiences. Their efforts have elevated the candidate experience and helped ensure that the lessons of Freemasonry begin long before the candidate enters the lodge room. To all who have contributed to this effort, I offer my sincere thanks.

This year has also been marked by the tremendous success of the Grand Master's One Day Classes. These events displayed the very best of Ohio Freemasonry. Districts, Lodges, ritualists, and volunteers came together with a common purpose: to introduce worthy men to our Fraternity and provide them with an exceptional beginning to their Masonic journey.

The success of these classes is a testament to what can be accomplished when Masons unite in purpose and labor together toward a common goal. Because of your efforts, many new Brothers have joined our ranks and begun their journey in Freemasonry.

Yet while we should celebrate these successes, we must also remember an important truth: our work is not finished.

A One Day Class is not the destination. It is merely the beginning.

The responsibility of every Lodge extends far beyond conferring degrees. Our obligation is to educate, mentor, engage, and inspire. The men who joined our Fraternity this year are looking to us for guidance. They are looking for friendship, knowledge, leadership, and purpose. They are looking for opportunities to become active participants in our Lodges and our communities.

The true measure of our success will not be the number of candidates who received degrees. It will be the number of Brothers who remain engaged, continue their Masonic education, assume leadership roles, and will one day guide the next generation of Ohio Masons.

As we celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the United States, we are reminded that our nation was built by men who believed in service, sacrifice, virtue, and personal responsibility. Those same principles remain at the heart of Freemasonry today. The future of our Fraternity, like the future of our nation, depends upon individuals who are willing to step forward, accept responsibility, and commit themselves to something greater than themselves.

The opportunities before us are tremendous. We have welcomed new members. We have strengthened the candidate experience. We have demonstrated that Ohio Freemasonry remains vibrant and relevant. Now we must continue the work. We must invest in our new Brothers, strengthen our Lodges, and ensure that every man who enters our Fraternity finds a meaningful place within it.

My Brothers, thank you for your dedication, your service, and your unwavering support throughout this year. Thank you for your commitment to your Lodges, your districts, and to Freemasonry itself.

Most importantly, thank you for remaining Committed to the Craft.

Fraternally,

MWB Shawn Johnson
Grand Master of Masons in Ohio
