History of the Beacon

The first edition of the Beacon was published in September of 1993 and titled The Ohio Masonic Home Beacon. It was a stunning publication in color with twelve pages that highlighted the mission of the Home as well as its beautiful living spaces and engaging activities. This magazine created strictly by the Ohio Masonic Home was sent to the 175,000 Masons of Ohio. For the next seven years it would continue to bring news of the programs and changes happening at the Home. In the winter of 2000 the magazine would expand to sixteen pages and receive a new shorter name of the Beacon. At this time the Ohio Masonic Home invited the Grand Lodge to contribute newsworthy articles regarding its activities and stories of Freemasonry in Ohio. The Beacon became “A Joint Publication of the Grand Lodge of Ohio and the Masonic Home.” This brings us to 2012, the age of technology, and the idea to expand to a new domain, the internet. In an effort to make the Beacon more tech savvy and to save on postage costs which could be used by the Ohio Masonic Home Foundation toward our charities, we moved here to the ohiobeacon.com. Contributing authors and the ease of the internet allow for more frequent postings of articles regarding news at the Home and in Ohio Freemasonry.
