The Core of Patriotism

Tom Stofac The theme of this Beacon is Patriotism. With respect, I wish to begin by thanking all of you my brethren who served so diligently in protecting the freedom we have in this great country of ours. Your service and dedication is a gift to each of us and I pray you great joy and a multitude of gratitude from the bottom of my heart. As I reflected on this topic I was trying to get to the bottom of what drives or is at the core of Patriotism. To me it starts with commitment. Commitment to God our country and our fellow man. But also it is driven by the core emotion of pride. Pride in a belief that God will see us through, our Country is the best on earth and our fellow man is worth protecting. These core values of commitment and pride are not as prevalent in our society as they used to be in many areas of our nation and world. One of the areas in which I see these core values lived out in real ways is in the work and service we do as Masons. To this end I am so proud to be a Mason and part of all the appended bodies of Masonry. I am also humbled and honored to be your CEO of the most visible expression of Masonic service and philanthropy here at The Ohio Masonic Home. You can be assured of my and our commitment and pride to be serving you and the fraternity as well as the community around us. I recently went to Florida to meet with all the coordinators for our Grand Master’s Buckeye reunion Meetings. I want to thank all of them for their hospitality and in each of them I saw the pride and commitment to Ohio Masonry. You will also in this edition see how you can be involved or make sure you come and enjoy the fellowship and pride that is Ohio Masonry. There are fascinating and great Masons from Ohio in Florida and I know that each and every one of these cities and events will be an exciting and meaningful event. Please do not hesitate to call the coordinators with questions and to make your reservations early. I want to personally thank Bob, Ken, Jim and Art and the committee from West Palm. Your commitment and pride in being from Ohio is an inspiration to me and others as I share your stories.
